Campus Pride is an organization that works with university communities nationwide “to help support and improve the quality of campus life for LGBTQ people,” as explained on their website.
The Campus Pride Index measures colleges and universities based on several different benchmarks to determine how well they demonstrate a commitment to programs, practices and policies that are LGBTQ-inclusive. The benchmarks measured include policy inclusion, support and institutional commitment and campus safety, among others. UNC, once again, this year.
With the ranking, Campus Pride highlights the impact of UNC’s Gender and Sexuality Resource Center (GSRC), noting the number of programs and resources the center offers in order to promote the success and inclusion of LGBTQ people. These include volunteer opportunities, mentorship programs and affinity groups. Back in June, to coincide with Pride Month, UNC also placed rainbow pride banners around campus to show support for the LGBTQ community.
In a tweet, President Andy Feinstein stated, “I am proud that @UNC_Colorado has been named one of Campus Prides’ 2022 Best of the Best LGBTQ-Friendly Campuses. This reflects the great work of students, faculty, staff, and everyone @UNCO_GSRC to create a welcoming campus community.”
