This announcement was updated May 5, 2025, to reflect new progress on construction.
As construction progresses on UNC's proposed ºÃÉ«TV of Osteopathic Medicine, there will be impacts to vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area through the summer months.
During this phase of the construction, crews are working on completing work in the city’s right of way, including new pedestrian walk paths, stormwater drainage infrastructure and curb and gutter repair, and working on the installation of the new sanitary sewer line and connection of the domestic water line.
The following dates are approximate and will be updated if and when changes occur.
Construction Impacts to Parking in D Lot:
May 12-16
- All parking spaces along the south side of D lot will be unavailable during this time, except for ADA spots, which will remain open. See D lot construction map below for details.
- During May 12-16 only, all parking permits are valid in E lot to help account for the unavailable spaces in D lot.
- Two-way traffic will continue from D to E lot.
Construction Impacts to E Lot:
May 12 - June 20
- The east entrance to E lot on 11th Ave. will be closed through June 20. Parking in E lot will remain open and available during this time. The closure only applies to the entrance of the lot.

Construction Impacts to Pedestrian Traffic:
May 12 - August
- Pedestrian foot traffic is closed along the fencing of the construction site (indicated in orange lines on the pedestrian traffic map below). This includes the sidewalk along the west side of 11th Ave. between 20th and 22nd streets, through portions of D Lot and along the south side of 20th St.. Detours will be in place, routing pedestrians to use the walking and bicycle paths along the southwest side of the University Center hill.
